HIS Hosts the World Scholars Cup

wsc
Hsinchu International School will host the second annual World Scholars Cup Regional Competition in Hsinchu, Taiwan. In the World Scholar's Cup, teams compete at national and regional meets to qualify for the World Finals. The competition revolves around a different theme each year and the theme for this year is “The Frontier."

The World Scholar's Cup isn't about specialization in a single subject; it's about teamwork, thinking on your feet and a willingness to learn new things. It began as an international version of a well-recognized American competition, the Academic Decathlon, but has been redesigned to meet the needs of English-language students worldwide. Participants have the opportunity to win both individual and team awards, to bolster their extracurricular records for college and university admissions, and to explore new subjects and skills. But most importantly, they can forge new contacts around the world and benefit from a unique team-based learning opportunity.

The first Scholar's Cup World Finals were held on May 26th and 27th, 2007 at the YBM English Village in Seoul, South Korea. This year HIS will play host for the regional competition on Saturday March 15, 2008 with schools from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau participating before heading off to Seoul, Korea for the World Finals on May 31, 2008. Not only will HIS host this prestigious event but we will also participate in the competition. The HIS team led by their coach Ms. Sheryl Gruber, is comprised of the following team members Kevin Liao, Connie Chang, Aled Lines and Cindy Chen.
