HIS helps kick off Lunar New Year's Eve festivities

HIS was honoured again this year to be invited by the Hsinchu City Bureau of Cultural Affairs to take part in the February 6th Lunar New Year’s Eve Countdown. The event, which is usually held in front of the Hsinchu Municipal Train Station, was held indoors at the Hsinchu Culture Center to avoid the bad weather.

The show lasted from 9pm to midnight, and featured many famous acts from around the island, including famous singers, dancers and acrobats. The theme for HIS this year was "Webtastic", first performed by the Elementary Dept. students at the HIS Christmas performance. Everyone came dressed as a spider, all in black, complete with face paint to portray the spirit of a "world wide web" of friendship and togetherness at New Year. To wrap up the performance with style, Mr. Simo and Eira Lines of the Secondary Dept. performed an amazing duet of violin and Chinese pipa. This delightful "East meets West" piece was created especially for the New Year show and had never previously been heard.

HIS would like to thank all students, teachers, parents and friends for all their kind help. We would also like to extend a very special thanks to 4th grader Tony Kim and his parents who actually delayed their flight to Korea to make sure Tony could be at the show. You may remember Tony as the incredibly acrobatic member of the flea circus during the Christmas performance. Thanks guys and Happy Chinese New Year!
